[SIZE=5][color=#663300]Il Belisario fu il primo grande successo di Goldoni sui teatri veneziani. L’autore lo scrisse nel 1734 a Milano; la tragicommedia andò in scena la sera del 24 novembre dello stesso anno (fra pochi giorni saranno i 280 anni dalla prima rappresentazione) al San Samuele di Venezia.
Il Belisario rievoca gli avvenimenti (non del tutto attendibili) narrati da Procopio e da un anonimo bizantino del XII secolo intorno a Belisario (500 – 565), generale dell’imperatore Giustiniano (482 – 565)
Sebbene l’intreccio di questa tragicommedia appaia macchinoso ed il conflitto schematico — da una parte i buoni, dall’altra i cattivi — l’opera rimane importante come documento della riforma goldoniana nella sua primissima fase.
Fu un grande successo di pubblico con quaranta rappresentazioni.
